New Year’s Eve
Smoke filled our lungs,
Explosions thundered in our ears,
And our eyes,
Oh, how our eyes
Drunk the light
From the stars that exploded
In a multitude of colors,
How they overflowed
With the grace of
The dancing flames,
Of the flowers,
Made of fire,
That blossomed
In the darkness of the night sky.
Sparks fell down
And for a moment
They looked as though
They’d reach us,
As if to kiss our skin.
Beneath the umbrella
Of fireworks,
We were children.
