Five Sentence Fiction – Shenanigans

The laughter seemed to come from all directions—it sounded like it was coming from the walls, from behind the closet door, from up the stairs, Annie didn’t want to admit it but it was maddening. She forced herself to walk as if nothing was amiss. Annie climbed up the stairs and down the hallway when she heard something move from behind the door of Max’s bedroom. They’re there, Annie thought as she reached for the knob but hesitated, remembering the time when she opened the door and was bombarded with so much powder she was sure her lungs were filled with it. Annie stomped her foot and breathed out a sigh of frustration—the next time she’s short on cash, she’d have to remind herself not to babysit the Angelo brothers.
